University of Kentucky geology professor Frank Ettensohn points out the layers of limestone formations which have been exposed during the blasting and excavation of the CentrePointe development downtown in Lexington, Ky. Saturday May 31, 2014. The floor of the site is about 30 feet below the surface and has exposed 25 feet of solid limestone which was created over hundreds of millions of years of skeletal remains of marine life settled at the bottom of an ocean. The excavation at CentrPointe is for the underground parking structure.
