Donnie White, who was active in Lexington's Civil Rights movement, led a walking tour of downtown as part of the Lexington Public Library's One Book One Lexington program in Lexington, Ky. on Friday, April 13, 2007. Standing at the intersection of Main Street and Upper Street, White explained that Cheapside, now a park next to the former courthouse behind him, was where inexpensive slaves were sold, and that nearby High Street was where the expensive slaves were sold. White described what life was like for African-Americans in Lexington during the Civil Rights movement as well as some history of blacks in Lexington. About a dozen people participated in the walk.
