Travel in ancient Quito, Ecuador

An aluminum statue of a winged virgin adorns the top of El Panecillo, a small hill separating the north and south sections of Quito, the capital city of Ecuador on June 17, 2009. The monument was built by Agustìn de la Herràn Matorras, a Spanish artist, and was completed in 1976 and remains a popular attraction and reference point. Quito is a frequent stopping point before heading to the Galapagos Islands off the coast.
