Liz Knapp sorted through her garbage bag to pick out the recyclables after picking up litter in downtown in Lexington, Ky., on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, as part of the Downtown Trash Bash, coincidentally on Earth Day this year. Knapp said that about 90 percent of what she picked up was cigarette butts. 125 volunteers cleaned up litter in downtown Lexington. According to event organizers, Wal-Mart employees made up more than half of the volunteers. The event, which was held from 12-4 Tuesday, gave free lunches and t-shirts to the volunteers and supplied them with trash bags and gloves. Photo by David Stephenson | Staff 5591
