Richard "Mississippi" Anderson, 85, retrieved some of his gallon jugs of water from the back of his truck before pouring the water into the dirt where he was planting crimson sweet watermelons along Leestown Road near Great Acres Nursery in Lexington, Ky. on Tuesday, May 29, 2007. Anderson, who has 75 years of planting water melons, said that any moisture in the ground was far too deep to germinate the seeds, so he brought along 75 gallon jugs of water to water the hill where he was planting the seed. In a normal spring, he said he wouldn't have to bring the water. "Without this water, there is no way this seed would come up," he said. He is planting 3.5 acres of watermelons and 2,000 tomato plants nearby. Photo by David Stephenson | Staff 3239
