Avian biologist Kate Heyden, with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, looks through a spotting scope to try and get a glimpse of a barn owl where it is nesting in the MedTech College building in the Coldstream Research Campus in Lexington, Ky, on 5/25/10. At right is Bill Bishop who is the court appointed receiver for the Lexhold property which MedTech College occupies and which has been placed under bankruptcy protection. Construction workers who were making finishes to the exterior of the building discovered the pair of owls and their four babies. Work has been halted until the babies fledge and after they leave the nest a permanent nesting box will be installed. According to Heyden, this nesting pair is one of less than a dozen known in the state currently. Photos by David Stephenson
