James Long, a retired jockey and who was one of the featured speakers during a Juneteenth historical event held at the African Cemetery No. 2, looked over a newly erected historical marker near where famous jockey Isaac Murphy is buried in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday, June 18, 2011. Long now works with the Project to Preserve African American Turf History. Juneteenth is the annual celebration in Lexington of the Day the Emancipation Proclamation was read in Galveston, Texas. The African Cemetery No. 2 on 7th Street in Lexington is the oldest recorded cemetery in Lexington to be organized, owned, and managed by African Americans.
