Hazard dentist Nikki Stone performed a dental exam and fluoride treatment on Mason Ballou at the Head Start program in Jenkins, Ky., on Tuesday, October 21, 2008. Mason previously had her four front teeth pulled as a last resort due to the extreme decay. The effort is part of a University of Kentucky dental outreach program that targets young children in Eastern Kentucky counties, hoping to head off long-term dental problems that extend into adulthood.
